The Radiators - "Law of the Fish" - Sony - 1987
It's easy to hear the influences of The Allman Brothers and Little Feat in The Radiators' sound. They play the same jamming style that's filled to the brim with lush guitar solos that keep Fishheads coming back again and again, 33 years after they first grouped together.
With "Law of the Fish," the band's first hit record, The Radiators put together an impressive array of original songs that they had been cooking for years. Many of the songs on the album were written years before the album's recording in 1987 and had become staples in their live shows, but here the classics are put on full display and given the large studio treatment.
Among the standouts on the album are "Doctor Doctor" with its addicting guitar lick and "Love is a Tangle," a song with a funky beat layered with bold shouts from the guitars of Dave Malone and Camile Baudoin.
And yes, we're cheating a bit by putting this album in the modern music part of our list, but there was no way we were leaving out The Radiators best record as they do their farewell tour across the city.
