Juvenile - "400 Degreez" - Cash Money - 1998
"400 Degreez" was Juvenile's shining moment, the album that put Cash Money records on the national map and made Juvenile one of rap's biggest names. It sold 4 million records and went quadruple platinum, and its biggest hit, "Back That Thang Up," was so ubiquitous that it dethroned Sir Mix-a-Lot's "Baby Got Back" as the ultimate tribute to a woman's derriere (we're trying to keep it PG here, folks).
The album isn't just hype. With help from producer Mannie Fresh, Juvenile laid down a seemingly endless supply of hot beats that are played in clubs to this day. "Follow Me Now" puts a Dirty South twist on "Oye Como Va," and "Ha," which has a whopping three different version on the album, rivaled "Back That Thang Up" as Juvenile's biggest hit of 1998.
While the album has its fair share of filler -- it's 18 songs long, which is actually short for a Cash Money record of the time -- the singles on this album alone make it worth grabbing.
