Historic photos as WWL-TV celebrates 55th anniversary

Channel 4 is celebrating a milestone today: our 55th birthday. In this slide show, we look back on some of the familiar faces who helped build WWL into the station it is today, and hope you'll join us in celebrating 55 great years. Here is Bill Elder, in his iconic spot on the noon and 5:00 anchor desk – a spot he held for more than 30 years. He was a local TV icon, winning awards (including the Peabody) for his investigative reporting and bringing the news to you in his own unique style.

Channel 4 is celebrating a milestone today: our 55th birthday.

The station signed on September 7, 1957, in newly-built studios on N. Rampart St., as an extension of the broadcasting legacy introduced by WWL Radio and Loyola University, which founded both stations.

In this slide show, we look back on some of the familiar faces who helped build WWL into the station it is today, and hope you'll join us in celebrating 55 great years.

Thank you for watching and supporting us all these years and for many years to come!
