10) Residents flee Kentwood, areas near Tangi river as pressure continues on dam
The threat of pressure on a lake dam in Tangipahoa Parish caused concerns after Hurricane Isaac that if it failed, it would have added an extra two feet of water to the river’s crest level and send tons of water into the parish.
An immediate evacuation was called, but thankfully, no failure of the dam occurred, despite officials saying there was a 50 percent chance of that happening. Had it fallen, officials said water would have overwhelmed the community within 90 minutes.
