04) Man builds seaworthy small replica of Titanic
It was a quiet May morning when the Eyewitness News team first started receiving bizarre calls of a vessel in Lake Pontchartrain that looked like – of all things – the Titanic. Soon commuters going across the Causeway Bridge overwhelmed our phones and sent in dozen of emails asking about it, so we just had to find out what all the fuss was about.
Turns out they were right. Mark Koch, 52, said the replica weighs about 2,000 pounds at 23-feet long, 5-feet wide and about 9-feet tall, and it’s fit to be ridden.
Koch's decision to sail along the Causeway was no coincidence. He wanted to see if it would attract any interest. Judging by the amount of people talking about and viewing the story, you can say it was “Mission Accomplished.”
