UPDATE: Equipment failure, not crop burn, cuts power to 30,000 in Terrebonne, Lafourche

A crop burn by a farmer damaged a transmission line and knocked out power to more than 30,000 businesses.

THIBODAUX, LA. - UPDATE: Entergy Louisiana reports that the outage was caused by an equipment failure on the transmission line and not a farmer's crop burn.

"We apologize for any confusion caused by our initial assessment," a statement from the company said. "The damaged equipment has been repaired."
