SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — A federal grand jury has indicted two men accused of killing a Puerto Rican high school student during an attempted carjacking.

U.S. prosecutors said Thursday that Alexis Amador Huggins and John Anthony Morales Lopez face the death penalty if found guilty. The two are accused of trying to steal a 2007 Lexus SUV from 17-year-old Stefano Steenbakkers Betancourt on June 24.

Prosecutors said the suspects rear-ended the SUV trying to force him to stop. Steenbakkers called his mother to give his location and the license plate of his attackers before he was fatally shot.
