SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) — Authorities in the Dominican Republic have confiscated 1,870 kilograms (4,122 pounds) of cocaine in one of the country's largest drug seizures in recent years.
The director of the National Drug Control Agency says officials have arrested two men and are looking for another five suspects, including a former marine.
Rolando Rosado said Thursday that military planes spotted a suspicious-looking boat in the ocean and followed it until it was abandoned in a bay just west of the capital of Santo Domingo.
The seizure comes less than a month after agents confiscated more than 1,190 kilograms (2,623 pounds) of cocaine.
Authorities last year seized a total of more than 8 metric tons (9 tons) of cocaine, setting a record.
