TOKYO (AP) — Police say a fire broke out at a hospital in southern Japan in the early hours of Friday, killing 10 people.
Fukuoka prefectural police say eight others were injured in the fire at an orthopedic hospital that apparently caught them in their sleep. Police say eight of the dead were patients, and the remaining two were hospital staff.
Conditions of those injured were not immediately known. Media reports say a total of 18 people were at the hospital at the time of the fire.
Police say the fire started from the first floor of the four-story building, but the cause was still under investigation. The fire has been extinguished.
No other details were immediately available.
