KENNER, La. – A pedestrian is dead after a vehicle struck the person, who was trying to cross Airline Highway at the time, according to Kenner Police Department spokesman Detective Shaun Watson.

The car hit the pedestrian around 6:10 p.m. at Curtis Avenue while traveling east on Airline Highway, Watson said. The pedestrian died on the scene.

There was no cross walk where the pedestrian was trying to cross, Watson said, and the driver of the vehicle did not seem to be intoxicated or speeding.

The pedestrian will not be identified until authorities notify family members.

The accident shut off traffic on Airline Highway for over an hour. The eastbound lanes on Airline Highway didn’t open up until 7:52 p.m., Watson said.

If you know anything about this incident, call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
