Don currently hosts a Saturday morning outdoors radio show, created in 1985, that originates from WWL-AM/FM in New Orleans. His weekly radio program has been carried by stations statewide and across the country since 1989. Don is also a regular contributor to WWL talk radio programs, including hosting Garland Robinette’s “Think Tank” each Friday.
A New Orleans native, Don is an outdoorsman, conservationist, columnist, broadcaster, journalist and speaker. He has spent decades fishing and hunting the woods, swamps, marshes and bayous of the southeast.
Don continues a tradition of covering the sportsman’s paradise established 30 years ago by WWL-TV’s Frank Davis.
“Don knows fishing, he knows hunting, he knows Louisiana, and he knows precisely how to convey those subjects to the audience,” Frank said of his successor. He added that he and Don have been friends and colleagues for many years, dating back to Frank’s days hosting an outdoors show on WWL Radio.
Don has combined his knowledge and love of the outdoors with a unique ability to provide both experienced and novice sportsmen with techniques and hints for successful hunting and fishing in Louisiana and the Gulf Coast. This insider’s knowledge of Louisiana has proven invaluable in discussions about rebuilding New Orleans and the Gulf South.
Don also contributes features and photographs to a number of statewide magazines. He is an award-winning television reporter who has written, produced and hosted 21 years of outdoor features on New Orleans television and appears on the “Paradise Louisiana” weekly TV fishing program.
Don’s personal and professional affiliations include memberships in Outdoor Writers of America Association, Louisiana Outdoor Writer's Association (Past President) Louisiana Wildlife Federation (Past Regional Director) Ducks Unlimited, Delta Waterfowl, Bass Angler Sportsmen's Society, Buckmasters, National Wild Turkey Federation and Bayou State Bowhunters.
Don was inducted into the Louisiana Sportsman "Hall of Fame", named "Conservationist of the Year" by two sportsmen’s organizations and earned a nomination for the Governor’s State Conservation Communicator Award. In 2003, Don was honored with the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association’s Arthur Van Pelt Award for lifetime achievement in conservation.
