Bigad Shaban joined the Eyewitness News team as a general assignment reporter in July 2007. He is happy to be back in the south and proud to be reporting on Louisiana's Recovery.

While a native Floridian, Bigad most recently served as a weekend anchor and reporter for KGAN in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

There, he covered local and national politics, including the presidential campaign trail. Prior to his work in the Hawkeye State, Bigad was an evening anchor and reporter for WUFT News 5 in Gainesville, Florida. Bigad has also spent some time working in the Big Apple as a desk assistant for World News Now in New York, where he was able to produce for ABC News. Bigad has also interned at NBC’s Weekend TODAY Show in New York.

Bigad has been recognized for his work by several news organizations including the Society of Professional Journalists, Florida Associated Press, Iowa Broadcast News Association, and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Bigad is especially proud to be a part of the Gator Nation. He graduated with high honors from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in broadcast journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in political science. Bigad continues to bleed Orange and Blue even while living in LSU Country. Just days after arriving to The Big Easy, Bigad was named Vice President of the New Orleans Gator Club. Go Gators!

Bigad's start at WWL was unique because it had to be pushed back two weeks. On what was supposed to be his first day, Bigad had to have emergency surgery for appendicitis.

"It was an interesting beginning to my new life in New Orleans," he says. "It wasn't exactly the welcoming I was hoping for, but I can't help but laugh at the situation now."

When Bigad is not in the newsroom or out on a story he enjoys getting lost in the Crescent City, visiting friends and family, and spending time with the love of his life. If you have a story idea to share, or just want to say hello feel free to e-mail Bigad anytime.
