They say if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans. Well, Scott Cody has made God laugh several times, dating back to his days at Texas Tech, where he originally pursued a degree in civil engineering. Three and a half years into it, physics and calculus led him down a different path.
Scott had covered sports, whether it was for the campus radio station doing sports updates or play-by-play for high school baseball games, but a career in sports reporting never crossed his mind, that is, until he crossed paths with Thermodynamics 3401.
Scott's first post-college job was with KCBD in Lubbock, Texas, where his appreciation for the visual side of broadcast journalism grew as he lumbered around with a 35-pound BETA camera for the better part of a year covering his alma mater, the Dallas Cowboys and Bob Knight.
Hattiesburg, Mississippi was Scott's next stop. For two years he was the 10 p.m. sports anchor at WDAM. It was in the 'Magnolia State' where Scott's fondness for the Crescent City and its people-one in particular-was born. But his career path was not meant to head farther south just yet.
In 2004, Scott accepted a tremendous opportunity to work at WVTM in Birmingham, Alabama. For a year and a half, Scott became immersed in the heart of SEC country, covering the rival between Alabama and Auburn.
After Hurricane Katrina, Scott's interests and concerns solely revolved around New Orleans; Scott left Birmingham and his career to gut out homes in the Crescent City. And after one month of the most fulfilling work Scott said he's ever done, WWL finally called.
These days, Scott said his business plans remain the same: to cover the stories that present themselves each day.
In the meantime, Scott made his move to New Orleans permanent when he finally turned in his Texas driver's license for a Louisiana license. He said his full conversion to native will be complete next April, when he marries his fiancee.
