KENNER, La. – A couple living in Metairie was arrested on second-degree murder charges after police said they used a broken beer glass to stab and severely injure the manager of a restaurant on Roosevelt Blvd. last week.

According to Kenner Police spokesman Brian McGregor, Jorge Esteban Esteva Acosta, 29; and his girlfriend, Miguelina Rodriguez-Monegro, 26, were involved in a disturbance at Taqueria Chillangos and were ushered out of the business by the manager on Wednesday, March 21.

Once outside, police said the couple began fighting with the manager and that Acosta went to his car and got a baseball bat and began swinging at the manager.

McGregor said the manager was able to get the bat away from Acosta, but he said then Rodriguez-Monegro grabbed a beer glass and broke it and then handed it to Acosta.

McGregor said Acosta stabbed the victim violently several times.

The victim was rushed to the hospital and required immediate surgery for significant blood loss. McGregor said the manager had his brachial artery severed and that he had stab wounds to the left wrist, right shoulder, back and chest.

Acosta was charged with attempted second-degree murder. Rodriguez-Monegro was charged with principal to attempted second-degree murder.
