COVINGTON, La. – A 17-year-old Covington girl was killed in a single-car accident after her car left the road and struck a metal culvert on LA 21 Friday night, police said.
According to State Police, Kayla Dearman was traveling south on LA 21 around 9 p.m. when her Ford Escort left the paved roadway to the right. The car then entered a ditch and traveled about 90 feet before striking the culvert and rolling over several times.
State Police said Dearman, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was ejected from the Escort.
She was taken to St. Tammany Parish hospital in serious condition and then airlifted to the LSU Trauma Center in New Orleans where she was pronounced dead.
State Police said no impairment is suspected.
