ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. - Shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday, Louisiana State Police began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on Highway 190 B, east of Interstate-10 in St. Tammany Parish.
The accident took the life of 27-year-old Slidell resident Kiel T. Rasmussen. "Rasmussen was riding a 2011 Honda motorcycle at a high rate of speed eastbound on Fremaux Ave," police said.
Juan C. Martinez, 26, of Slidell was driving his Hyundai Tiburon northbound on Brookter Road and failed to yield to Rasmussen while attempting to make a left turn off of Brookter Road onto Fremaux.
Rasmussen laid his Honda down on its side to avoid striking Martinez's car but failed. He was ejected from his motorcycle, hitting the driver's side of the Hyundai, suffering fatal injuries. "Excessive speed on the part of Rasmussen is considered to be a factor," police said.
State Police stated that Rasmussen was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, and "do not suspect impairment to have been a factor in this crash on the part of either driver." Routine toxicology samples were taken from both drivers.
Martinez was placed under arrest and booked for failure to yield to a stop sign resulting in a death and no driver's license.
