KENNER, La. -- Kenner police are still searching for a woman who ditched a baby in the parking lot of the Esplanade Mall after shoplifting and using a stun gun on a security guard.

It happened just after 8 p.m. Saturday in the Gymboree store.

Someone allegedly saw the woman trying to shoplift from the Gymboree store. She had a 6- to 9-month-old boy with her in a stroller.

When a security guard approached her, Kenner police say, she used a stun gun on the officer and took off. She left the baby in the stroller in the parking lot and drove off in a gold Honda Accord with temporary tags.

Child Protective Services took custody of the child.

Kenner police say the baby's mother called them this morning wanting her child back, but won't say who the babysitter was who had the child at the mall.

The babysitter is facing charges of battery on the security guard, child endangerment and felony shoplifting.

Police hope to have more details when the mall re-opens Monday.
