CHALMETTE, La. – A man accused of using a machete to commit two robberies was arrested early Tuesday morning near his mother’s home in Marrero, according to the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Dicarlo Young, 35, who had already served time in prison for manslaughter according to the sheriff’s office, was booked with two counts of robbery.
Sheriff-Elect James Pohlmann said that on March 20 a man with a machete and who was wearing a red bandanna or scarf on his face, entered a business in Arabi and robbed an employee of his wallet.
Pohlmann also said Young used a machete to rob a man who was using a video rental box near Paris Road and West Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette just after midnight Tuesday.
The victim said the man was wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt and demanded his wallet before taking off in a gray Jeep Cherokee with a temporary license plate.
Young was apprehended after Jefferson Parish officers were asked to make a check at his mother’s home in Marrero.
Pohlmann said the machete hasn’t been recovered but that a red bandanna was seized from an apartment that Young shared with a woman. Pohlmann said the woman stated that Young did own a machete.
