NEW ORLEANS - The young man who was pulled from Lake Pontchartrain Monday after falling under the water for more than ten minutes has died, according to the New Orleans coroner's office.
The victim is identified as Shone Badon, 17. The cause of death was listed as drowning.
Badon and two friends were in the water at the lakefront near UNO when his friends said he went under.
Tammy Murray, a bystander, and another rescue worker answered the cries for help and dove under to save Badon, pulling him from an area of the water that appeared to drop off.
Murray said Badon was under the water for more than ten minutes.
He was rushed to the hospital and placed on life support at that time.
