LAFOURCHE, La. -- State Police charged a Westbank man with more than a dozen felony counts in connection with a cache of pipe bombs found in his wrecked car in Lafourche Parish.
Tuesday, police charged 53-year-old Tony Barisich with 10 counts of the manufacture and possession of a bomb and one count each of not having a license to manufacture explosives, wreckless handling of explosives and storage of explosives.
Monday, according to State Police, Barisich wrecked his car on Highway 308 in Lockport.
When troopers arrived to investigate the accident, they found the explosives in Barisich's vehicle along with a stash of legally purchased fireworks.
According to police, Barisich claimed he planned to explode the pipe bombs during the up coming 4th of July celebration.
A search of Barisich's home on East Butterfly Circle in Terrytown by State Police and ATF turned up no evidence of bomb making material.
A State Police spokesman says Barisich remains in the Thibodaux Regional Medical Center Tuesday morning. He was last listed in stable condition with injuries from the car accident.
Barisich will be booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Center when released from the hospital.
According to State Police, Barisich is a boat captain with Blanchard Marine Services.
