NEAR JESUIT BEND, La. – A man was rescued after falling overboard from a Norwegian Cruise Line ship traveling the Mississippi River  near Jesuit Bend Sunday evening, according to witnesses on board the ship.

Callers reported the incident to Eyewitness News, and the U.S. Coast Guard confirmed the incident happened at approximately 8 p.m. in the Mississippi River, south of Jesuit Bend in Plaquemines Parish.

The man was reportedly rescue by the ship’s own rescue boats before Coast Guard rescue crews arrived on scene.

It was unclear how the man fell into the water, or what his condition was, thought passengers told WWL-TV that an announcement was made over the ship's intercom that the man was stable.   He was apparently being examined by the ship’s doctor.

Eyewitness News is working to confirm more details from Norwegian Cruise Line.
