NEW ORLEANS – Police the teenager wanted for shooting and killing another teenager who was on the phone with 911 at the time turned himself into police.

Marquies Matthews, 17, surrendered to deputies at central lockup at noon Monday with his attorney at his side. He was charged with second-degree murder.

Marc Canty III, 18, was found shot to death in the 2100 block of Selma St. Friday afternoon just after 4 p.m.

He was on the phone with 911 operators after being shot and was able to give them the identity of Matthews as he was on the phone, being chased on foot before he died, police said.

Witnesses also provided a physical description of Matthews, police said.

Matthews had no adult arrest record but should be considered armed and dangerous.
