HARVEY, La. – Jefferson Parish authorities have arrested a suspect in Tuesday’s armed burglary in Marrero, Sheriff Newell Normand announced at a press conference.
Normand said that around 3 a.m. Tuesday, the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Hillard King, entered a home in the 5800 block of Beinvenue Avenue and shot a woman inside the home in front of her children.
"The victim stated that she was inside her residence on Bienvenue when a male acquaintance called and asked if he could come over. When she told him no, he forced his way through a rear door of the residence armed with a rifle. He then shot the victim one time and fled the location on foot," said JPSO spokesman Sgt. Larry Dyess.
The victim, a 35-year-old woman, was shot in the stomach and was last listed in critical condition, but deputies say her single gunshot wound was not life threatening.
King turned himself in and will be booked with one count each of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated burglary and use of a firearm during a crime of violence.
