BELLE CHASSE, La. — A routine traffic stop in Braithwaite, La., ended with three men being arrested for possession with intent to distribute after officers found two pounds of marijuana in their pickup truck, authorities reported Friday.
Shane Barrios, 42, and Denny Guerra Jr. 42, both of Violet, along with Brad Assevedo, 28, of Pearl River, all were taken to the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office.
According to PPSO Public Information Officer Eric Becnel, officers pulled over a white Chevrolet pickup truck Tuesday night for a seat belt violation.
As one of the passengers reached for the truck’s paperwork, the officer saw a pair of brass knuckles. All three men were asked to get out of the truck as it was searched for more weapons, Becnel said.
However, during the search, officers found partially smoked marijuana in the center console and asked Barrios, who was driving, if more of the drug was in the truck anywhere, Becnel said.
According to the news release, Barrios told the officer of more marijuana in the toolbox, where deputies found two pounds of it in a plastic grocery bag.
Barrios was charged with illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession with intent to distribute a schedule I CDS. He posted $60,000 bond.
Guerra was charged with possession with the intent to distribute a schedule I CDS and made $50,000 bond.
Assevedo also was charged with possession with intent to distribute as well as an outstanding Jefferson Parish traffic attachment. He remains in jail.
