NEW ORLEANS - On Wedensday, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson spoke to high school students about preparing financially for the future.

"Spending money to maintain status and lifestyle is not a smart move," Brees said to the McMain and McDonogh 35 students.

Brees said he racked up $2,000 in unpaid cell phone bills in college, which hurt his credit and eventually made it tough for him to buy his first house.

Brees made the point that irresponsibility with money can have an affect at any moment.

He explained the idea of a credit score by saying it was the students' financial report card.

Messages such as "live within your means," "live reasonably" and "save for a rainy day" resonated.

The students then played a football video game with financial responsibility questions. The game was Brees against Wilson.
