We’ve seen 13 practices and one preseason game and now I’m ready to proclaim the Saints … closer to game two of preseason.
Not making any season predictions just yet.
But I will make first stab at what I see could be the Saints’ 53-man roster come Sept. 3, when the roster must be cut to that number.
I admit this was tough. The roster is both full of potential while at the same time being light enough that figuring the final three or four players was tough.
I have only 16 of the 53 being newcomers who weren’t on last year’s roster. There’s also a contingency plan should defensive end Will Smith actually be suspended for the first four games – the NFL hasn’t commented one way or the other.
This is a moving target until the actual cut date and we’ll know more after the next game as to who is generally in New Orleans’ plans and who isn’t. There’s still plenty of time for this list to change and it most likely will.
I’m sure you’ll have disagreements. Isn’t America great? Also, the depth chart isn’t part of this experiment.
*If Will Smith ends up being suspended, I have Jeff Charleston as the extra defensive end. If Smith ends up not being suspended, I have Clint Ingram being an extra linebacker.
*I have defensive end Greg Romeus going to IR and running back Chris Ivory starting the season on PUP.
