The Falcons have extended an offer sheet to restricted free agent safety Rafael Bush, according to the league's transaction wire.
New Orleans tendered Bush at the lowest level, or the right of first refusal. They have until April 8 to match the contract, but should that date pass without anything happening, Atlanta would owe the Saints nothing for Bush.
New Orleans announced Wednesday the signing of former CFL safety Marcus Ball. The move appears prescient and gives the team depth no matter if Bush leaves or not.
The only safeties on the Saints roster right now are Kenny Vaccaro, Jairus Byrd and Ball. Bush would make four in a defense that uses just about every member at its disposal throughout the season.
Bush finished 10th on the team with 37 combined tackles. He had five passes defensed and contributed three special teams tackles. He became an integral player on the defense when Roman Harper missed time with a knee injury. He finished a season-best nine tackles against New England.
