Father of Cardinals player dies in wreck on way to Saints game

NEW ORLEANS -- The father of an Arizona Cardinals player is dead after a traffic accident that happened while he was en route to New Orleans to see his son play against the Saints, according to NFL.com.

Defensive tackle Dan Williams was excused from the game.

His father, Thomas Williams, was traveling from Memphis, Tenn., when the accident happened in Jackson, Miss. Dan Williams' sister and mother were also in the car, but they are expected to recover from their injuries.

Police haven't released details on what caused the accident.
