NEW ORLEANS — An MRI revealed a bone bruise in the left shoulder of Hornets rookie forward Anthony Davis, New Orleans coach Monty Williams said.

The test, which was administered to Davis on Wednesday was originally described by team officials as a sprain. Davis already has missed more than a dozen games this season with various injuries and is now out for the second game in a row because of this shoulder injury.

“He doesn’t feel the way he needs to feel to go out there and play effectively,” Williams said. “You’ve got to listen to the doctors and we’re hopeful that he will be able to come back soon.”

Davis is averaging 12.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game in his first season in the NBA.

In his place Williams said forwards Lance Thomas and Al-Farouq Aminu will slide down to cover for Davis and Jason Smith, who is out the rest of the season with a torn labrum in his right shoulder.
