Less than two weeks after being taken No. 4 overall by Baltimore in the 2012 Major League Baseball draft, LSU right-handed pitcher Kevin Gausman was named one of three finalists for the National Pitcher of the Year award.
The sophomore from Colorado finished this year with a 2.77 ERA and a 12-2 record. He struck out 135 batters while walking only 28 in 123.2 innings.
He earned a first-team all-American honors by Collegiate Baseball and was first-team all-SEC by the league’s coaches.
He’s joined by Stanford’s Mark Appel and N.C. State’s Carlos Rodon.
The winner will be announced on June 30.
