Three LSU players earned preseason all-Southeastern Conference first-team honors this week as the league’s annual media bonanza began college football’s march to the regular season.
Additionally, only one of the SEC’s record 243 voters had LSU as the preseason SEC favorite. Two-time reigning BCS champion Alabama was the overwhelming favorite, its 182 votes outpacing the next most-picked school Georgia’s 38 votes.
Defensive lineman Anthony Johnson and defensive back Craig Loston (photo, left) along with Odell Beckham Jr., as a return specialist were the only LSU players to earn first-team honors.
The Tigers had four players earn third-team all-SEC offense nominations – running back Alfred Blue, receiver Jarvis Landry and linemen La’el Collins and Josh Williford.
On defense, linebacker Lamin Barrow was named second-team preseason all-SEC while linebacker Tahj Jones and defensive back Jalen Mills picked up third-team honors.
LSU opens the season Aug. 31 in Dallas against TCU in the Cowboys Classic.
