BATON ROUGE – LSU’s season is not over.

The Tigers (19-13) received an invitation to the 32-team National Invitation Tournament as a fifth seed on Sunday night and will play at No. 4 seed San Francisco (21-11) at 9 p.m. Wednesday night. The Dons (21-11) finished 13-5 in the West Coast Conference. LSU finished 9-9 in the Southeastern Conference before splitting two games at the SEC Tournament – beating Alabama on Thursday and losing to Kentucky on Friday.

LSU is in a national postseason tournament for the first time since the 2011-12 season when it also reached the NIT at 18-14 overall and 7-9 in the SEC. The Tigers lost 96-76 at Oregon that year in the NIT. LSU’s last NIT victory was on March 13, 2002, when it won 63-61 at Iowa. It then lost at home to Ball State,75-65, six days later.

The Tigers reached the NIT in the 2004 season, losing 70-61 at Oklahoma.

LSU has not been to the NCAA Tournament since 2009 – its longest drought since not going from 2001 through 2004.
