The New Orleans Saints have decided not to play safety Darren Sharper and tight end David Thomas in their regular-season finale at Carolina.
Saints spokesman Greg Bensel said on Saturday that neither player traveled with the team to Charlotte for Sunday's game.
Sharper has a minor soreness in his left knee. He had been listed as questionable for Sunday's game as of Friday, but was downgraded along with Thomas, who had been listed as doubtful with a calf injury.
Receiver Lance Moore, Running Back Pierre Thomas and Safety Usama Young will not play Sunday against Carolina and linebacker Scott Shanle in the injury report released Saturday.
The Saints list of injured continues to be long and a report by the Times-Picayune said that Quarterback Drew Brees will be the third quarterback this weekend behind Mark Brunell and Chase Daniel.
In addition to those who are unlikely to play, listed as questionable are: DT Sedrick Ellis (knee), DE Bobby McCray (back), Safety Darren Sharper (knee), Tight End Jeremy Shockey (toe), and Linebacker Jonathan Vilma (knee).
Those listed as probable included: Tackle Jermon Bushrod, TE Darnell Dinkins, Guard Jahri Evans, CB Randall Gay, CB Jabari Greer, RB Lynell Hamilton and LB Jason Kyle.
