NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans Pelicans have officially completed a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers for the rights to Louisville guard Russ Smith, according to the Pelican's organization.
The team traded away the rights to Pierre Jackson in exchange for Smith, who the 76ers took with the No. 47 pick in the draft.
Smith averaged 18.2 points and 4.6 assists during his senior year at Louisville. He was named to the AP All-American First Team and averaged a robust 38.7 percent from the three-point line.
Smith comes with a winning pedigree. He won a national championship with Louisville in 2013, one year after losing to Pelicans star Anthony Davis in the Final Four.
Jackson, a Baylor grad, spent last year on the NBA D-League and did not make an appearance in an NBA game.
