METAIRIE, La. — Restricted free agent running back Chris Ivory has signed his tended, the team announced Friday afternoon.
Ivory had reportedly visited with the New York Jets in an attempt to better his situation; the Saints’ backfield is four deep.
The Saints had tendered Ivory with a $2 million, second-round tag and had he signed an offer sheet with the Jets which New Orleans didn’t match, the Saints would have been granted New York’s second-round pick. It's still possible for Ivory to be traded.
Ivory joined the Saints in 2010 as an undrafted rookie free agent. He became one of the NFC’s most bruising runner, rushing for 716 yards and five touchdowns on his way to an NFL all-rookie selection. He has 1,307 yards and eight touchdowns in three seasons.
But he hasn’t been able to stay healthy, missing games in each season with either a hamstring injury or a foot injury.
