The Saints and suspended coach Sean Payton haven’t moved much further along in contract negotiations since it was reported in early November that the NFL never OK’d an extension the two parties agreed to in 2011.

However, a league source confirmed multiple reports Thursday that the two sides do not see anything keeping the negotiations from starting and concluding.

The two sides are waiting for complete clarification on conditions in which the Saints and Payton, through his agent Donald Yee, can negotiate, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday.

Schefter reported those conditions are expected to be finalized this weekend and negotiations should start shortly after.

Since Nov. 4, when the news originally broke, rumors have heated up about Payton potentially taking over in Dallas, where his children live.  But the Cowboys job isn’t open right now.
