METAIRIE, La. ―The Saints signed defensive end Jeff Charleston on Saturday, cutting end Curtis Johnson to make room on the roster for the veteran defensive end.
Meanwhile, receiver Marques Colston (right knee) sat out his second day of practice, resting once again and taking time to let his knee recover from offseason surgery.
Additionally, running back Chris Ivory (left foot, sports hernia), cornerback Tracy Porter (left knee) and defensive end Greg Romeus (right knee) remained on the failed physical list.
Linebacker Ezra Butler (left hamstring), receiver Jarred Fayson (left ankle), receiver Adrian Arrington (ankle), cornerback Fabian Washington (hamstring) and defensive tackle Mitch King (chest) all missed practice.
Tackle Charles Brown (hamstring) passed his physical, practicing for the first time all camp on a limited basis.
For Charleston, the opportunity to stick with the team where he came of age far outweighed any other offers he might have had.
"You forget how much everyone appreciates you until you step in that door and see everyone’s face. I haven’t seen a lot of guys since the little bit of time I spent at Tulane," Charleston said. "Besides that, coaches and everything, it has been six months. It’s definitely an easy decision.
"If I would have known everything I would have know yesterday, just the respect everyone gives you, it’s just a good feeling of being back here. It’s not a hard decision to make in the future."
