NEW ORLEANS – A day after losing unrestricted free agent linebacker Scott Fujita to the Cleveland Browns, the Saints set out to fill one of their needs.
The Saints will bring in St. Louis Rams defensive end Leonard Little later this week, his agent told Eyewitness Sports Monday afternoon.
Little, a 12-year veteran, could take the spot of Charles Grant, whom the Saints released late last week. The free-agent defensive end finished the 2009 season with 23 tackles in 13 games, but he had 6½ sacks. He has 87 ½ sacks in his career, all of which have come for the Rams.
He also recorded his first career interception this past season.
Fujita’s leaving for the Browns opened up the unrestricted free agent market for the Saints. New NFL rules stated that the Saints, one of the final eight teams alive in the playoffs, couldn’t sign an unrestricted free agent until they lost one of their own.
Jason La Canfora of NFL.com said the Saints also will take visits from former Chargers defensive end Jamal Williams and former Rams defensive end James Hall.
