NEW ORLEANS – The Saints have waived kicker John Carney, who was unseated as the team’s starting kicker two weeks ago, and backup cornerback Marcus McCauley on Tuesday.

The team signed fullback Kyle Eckel and safety Herana-Daze Jones.

Carney, a 21-year veteran, was the team’s starting kicker until Garret Hartley took over against the Washington Redskins. Carney had kicked 13 of 17 field goals, but just one – a 46 yarder – exceeded 45 yards. He’ll leave the team as the second-leading scorer in franchise history.

McCauley was signed on Dec. 8, after the team cut cornerback Chris McCallister. He was inactive for both of the team’s games that he was on the roster.

Eckel, a third-year player out of the Naval Academy, played in five games for the Saints earlier this season. He carried the ball twice for six yards.

Jones has started 30 regular-season games in his four-year career, making 43 tackles and a fumble on special teams and eight tackles on defense. The New England Patriots cut him during their final preseason cuts.
