NEW ORLEANS – Anthony Hargrove will become the latest Saints restricted free agent to re-up with the franchise as he is expected to sign his tender on Monday, a league source said Sunday.
The Saints assigned Hargrove as third-round, $1.226 million tender.
Hargrove, who has been courted by the Detroit Lions this offseason, proved a critical part of the Saints’ Super Bowl run in a backup role on the defensive line.
The 6-foot-3, 272-pound defensive lineman started six games during the regular season and finished with 63 tackles, including five sacks. He forced one fumble, recovered three and scored one touchdown.
He became one of the feel-good stories of the season after making the team during training camp. Hargrove missed the 2008 season while facing a year suspension by the NFL for substance abuse.
