Rob Segedin and Brandon Boudreaux each hit three run home runs and Robby Broach limited St. Mary's to just two runs on six hits to guide the Tulane Baseball team to an 8-2 victory in the series finale versus St. Mary's at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. The Green Wave posted 11 hits and Segedin extended his hitting streak to 19 games, going three-for-four with two runs scored and three RBI's in the victory.
"This was a big weekend for us," said Tulane head coach Rick Jones. "This was a very good ball club in St. Mary's. They are very athletic and to win three games against them we are pleased. We just have to go out there now and build on it this."
The Gaels got the game started with the first run of the game against Broach when Markus Melgosa doubled to start things off and came around to score on a one-out single from Troy Channing.
Tulane took the lead with four unearned runs in the third inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Segedin. The frame started with a pair of outs for SMC starting pitcher Brandon Berl, but back-to-back singles and an error by the Gaels shortstop allowed the first run of the inning to cross the plate. Segedin followed up the throwing error with his third home run of the season to right field to push the Olive and Blue ahead, 4-1.
The Green Wave added four more runs in the fifth inning to stretch their lead to 8-1. Blake Crohan led off the frame with a single and Segedin collected a base hit to put a pair of runners on base with no outs. Boudreaux followed that with his first career home run to right-center field to push the TU lead to 7-1. Garrett Cannizaro walked to follow the homer, moving to third on a Karl Mundt single, and came in to score the eighth run of the game on a Brennan Middleton ground out.
