NEW ORLEANS -- Buddy Diliberto always said if the New Orleans Saints ever did the unthinkable and made it to the Super Bowl, he'd parade in the streets, wearing a dress.
When he died in 2005, fans of the beloved radio and television sports commentator didn't get to see the dream come true. But Sunday the Who Dat Nation will get to take part in a special parade and block party to make good on that pledge.
WWL 870AM announced plans Thursday to host "Buddy and Bobby's Brawd's Bunch-of-Men Dress March" and block party on Sunday, to be led by Saints quarterback Bobby Hebert, the "Cajun Cannon" who succeeded Diliberto as a popular WWL radio personality and father of the "Who Dat Nation."
The event begins at noon at Gate A of the Louisiana Superdome. Joining Hebert will be other WWL radio personalities and, if all goes according to plan, thousands of Saints fans, mostly men, in dresses.
The second line parade route will begin at the Louisiana Superdome, and travel Poydras Street to Carondolet Street in the Central Business District to the French Quarter. The parade will culminate in the 700 block of Conti Street and will be followed by a “best dress” and “hairy legs” contest.
