NEW ORLEANS -- Pelicans forward Anthony Davis has been named to the initial U.S. men's basketball squad, according to USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo.

“It’s a great honor to be selected to go out and represent your country,” said Davis. “Not many guys can say they had an opportunity to play for Team USA, and I’ve had the chance to do it twice.”

Davis was one of 28 players picked for the 2014-16 national team pool, said a statement from the Pelicans.  From the pool, teams for the 2014 USA World Championship and the 2016 U.S. Olympic team will be selected.

Davis has appeared in 33 games this season for the Pelicans and is averaging 20.2 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game in 35.2 minutes per game.
