CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It's official: The Charlotte Hornets are back.

The NBA owners approved the name change for the Bobcats at the Board of Governors meeting on Thursday in Las Vegas.

Tom Benson freed up the possibility for the name change after he decided to rebrand his franchise to the New Orleans Pelicans.

Charlotte, which was home to the Hornets franchise before then-Owner George Shinn moved it to New Orleans in 2002, decided to change its moniker from the Bobcats to the Hornets as part of its "Buzz City" campaign.
