Surgery to repair the broken right hand of rookie guard Austin Rivers was successful Tuesday, the Hornets said in a new release.

Rivers, 20, injured his hand in the first half of the Hornets’ loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on March 6. He’s expected to miss 4-6 weeks, or basically the remaining portion of the season.

Dr. Charles Melone performed the surgery at Beth Israel Hospital in New York City.

Rivers is the second Hornets player to have season-ending surgery; forward Jason Smith had successful surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder last week.
