METAIRIE, La. - Tuesday is the day Saints fans have been waiting for. Training camp kicked off with an added bonus - quarterback Drew Brees will be there.

On Tuesday morning players reported to camp. On Wednesday, a conditioning test will be administered. And, on Thursday, they hit the field for the first of 15 workouts under the hot sun.

Camp runs until the third preseason game against Jacksonville on August 17.

Excited fans were showing up as early as 6 a.m.

“Very happy that Drew signed and we’re ready to get going,” said Michael Bourgeois, a fan who has his fingers crossed for a Super Bowl win.

Brees had to miss all previous off season workouts while his 5 year, $100 million contract was being ironed out.

It has been almost four months since the NFL announced its investigation into the bounty scandal.

Assistant Head Coach Joe Vitt is at the helm, while Coach Sean Payton is forced to sit out the season because of bounty gate.

However, Vitt was also slapped with a six game suspension.

Veteran linebacker Jonathan Vilma is suspended for the season because of his alleged role in the bounty scandal.

He's scheduled to appear for a hearing on the scandal on Thursday where Brees and others could testify.

"Obviously I want the team to do well...and I want to be a part of the team...so for us, if they're willing to help me out in that situation that would be great...but I understand that we're about winning and it's about the Saints. So If Drew Or Joe can't come out, I'm fine with that too," Vilma said.

Brees will hold a press conference at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. It will be carried live on Channel 4 and on WWLTV.com.

Vitt will hold a press conference at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday that will be broadcast live on WWLTV.com.
