NEW ORLEANS - The agent for former New Orleans Saints player Frank Warren has been charged with taking nearly a half million dollars from the proceeds of a life insurance policy meant for Warren's wife and family.

Benjamin Geller, 53, was charged in a one-count bill of information with wire fraud Friday, according to U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente.

According to court documents, Geller helped Warren obtain a $1 million life insurance policy around 1994. Warren passed away in 2002 and the proceeds were supposed to go into a trust run by Geller for the benefit of Warren's wife and children.

Geller was supposed to mete out payments to Warren's widow and she said that around 2009 the payments she received in the mail became smaller.

Court documents allege that Geller misrepresented what was happening with the money and in fact spent over $500,000 on his own personal use, including travel and leisure.

If convicted of wire fraud, Geller could face a maximum of 20 years in prison, and a fine of $250,000.
