METAIRIE, La. — Chad Ochocinco has never been one to recoil from the spotlight or to stay away from trash talk.
He’s also not one to miss out on pop culture and Wednesday, he didn’t miss a beat when asked if he thought the Bengals would be a dangerous team for the Saints to play this week.
“We’re hungry,” Ochocinco said. “We’re looking to get that W to get things rolling and get that losing taste out of our mouth. This week, I’m quoting it’s going to be a messy Sunday. That’s my theme for this game.”
Indeed, in referring to “messy Sunday,” he’s referencing local legend Messy Mya, a comedian and rapper who was killed Nov. 14.
When asked what he meant, Ochocinco didn’t miss a beat, saying those in the New Orleans area and Louisiana would know.
“We as a team are going to have messy catches, messy touchdowns and I’m going to give them the messy shoulder,” he said.
Ochocinco has 54 catches for 628 yards and four touchdowns this season in his first year teamed up with Terrell Owens (65 catches, 914 yards, 8 TDs). But he Bengals have lost eight in a row, surprising considering Cincinnati won the AFC North in 2009.
“We’re a lot better than that,” Ochocinco said. “You look at it on paper and you would think there’s no way we should be in the predicament we’re in now. But we are. It’s an unfortunate situation. We have nobody o blame but ourselves.”
