NEW ORLEANS – Perhaps it’s the frustration of an 0-3 start or perhaps it’s the frustration of an offseason where his team was stripped of its leader and he spent most of it in a contract dispute that kept him from trying to hold the players together. Or perhaps it’s just the intense feelings of someone who loves the game so much, but whatever the reason, Drew Brees has had enough of the league’s use of replacement officials.

Monday afternoon, Brees let loose on a national radio talk show, decrying that the new officials could not keep up with the pace of NFL play – and that was before what happened Monday night in Seattle.

“You know, they're just not prepared to be in this situation. The game is so fast, and the level that all of them were at and now are at -- it just doesn't even compare. You know, I think it's getting to a point where it's pretty horrendous and it's an embarrassment to the league and the way it's being conducted."

Brees’ feelings were apparently only intensified after the refs looked at a loss for the proper procedure and proper call in the game’s final play, stealing a win from Green Bay.

Shortly afterwards, Brees tweeted, “I love this league and love the game of football, but tonight’s debacle hurts me greatly. This is NOT the league we’re supposed to represent.”

Brees’ feelings apparently didn’t lessen overnight. Tuesday morning he was at it again, this time with a not-so-subtle dig at the Saints’ punishment for the alleged bounty scandal.

“Ironic that our league punishes those based on conduct detrimental. Whose CONDUCT is DETRIMENTAL now?”
