Because I see my email inbox daily, I know how much folks are interested in the playoffs and how the Saints fit into the postseason.
Figured I’d update on clinching options for New Orleans (10-3), which has a 73 percent chance of making the playoffs as the No. 5 seed.
Three possibilities of clinching at least the No. 6 seed this weekend:
- 1.) New Orleans beats Baltimore, Philadelphia beats the New York Giants and Detroit beats Tampa Bay;
- 2.) New Orleans beats Baltimore, Detroit beats Tampa Bay and New England beats Green Bay;
- 3.) New Orleans beats Baltimore, Detroit beats Tampa Bay and Minnesota beats Chicago.
For Atlanta, there are four possibilities of clinching at least a playoff spot.
The Falcons (11-2) secure at least the No. 5 seed if they beat Seattle.
The Falcons can get at least the No. 6 seed if:
- 1.) Philadelphia beats the New York Giants;
- 2.) New England beats Green Bay;
- 3.) Minnesota beats Chicago.
And then there’s pesky Tampa Bay (8-5). The Bucs can’t secure a playoff spot, but they can be eliminated one way:
- 1.) Detroit beats Tampa Bay and New Orleans beats Baltimore.
Equally as daunting for New Orleans is that they have the second-toughest schedule in the NFL to finish the season (Green Bay has the toughest). The winning percentage of the remaining three teams on New Orleans’ schedule is 73 percent.
